- Allen Cooper was born on February 4, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan.
- Later he moved to Phoenix, Arizona with his family. He attended Cortez High School in north Phoenix.

- In 1964, when he was 16, he formed his first band called Earwigs to participate in local annual Letterman’s talent show.
