EARLY LIFE & CAREER

  • Allen Cooper was born on February 4, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan.
  • Later he moved to Phoenix, Arizona with his family.  He attended Cortez High School in north Phoenix.
  • He completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Glendale Community College.
  • In 1964, when he was 16, he formed his first band called Earwigs to participate in local annual Letterman’s talent show.
  • The group consisted of John Tatum, John Speer, Glen Buxton, and Dennis Dunaway. They performed wearing Beatles costumes and won the show.
  • After the huge success they formed the original band name Spider. Allen was their main vocalist. Some of the members left in a few years so new members were added to the group.
  • In 1968 he renamed the band group as  Alice Cooper. The Alice Cooper group’s members were Michael Bruce, Furnier, Dennis Dunaway, Glen Buxton and  Neal Smith.
