Arangetram means that after years of training under a mentor, classical dancers, students, can now take to the stage and impart knowledge of the art form to other aspiring learners. It also means dancers can now perform classical dance solo in front of a live audience.
Why don’t we hear about Arangetram more often?
While we know about baby showers, birthdays, haldi, mehndi and all other traditions, the question of why Arangetram remains quite unknown among the masses remains a matter of debate. Does this mean that Indian cities have lost their roots due to modernization and digitization? Of course, there is no easy answer to this question.
However, there is a real need now to encourage our youth to indulge in classical dance and singing to stay connected with their roots.
