ZEE5 Ott is India’s own digital entertainment platform. It Provides  subscription video on-demand and over-the-top streaming service, run by Essel Group via its subsidiary Zee Ott Entertainment Enterprises.

From Bollywood to regional cinema, everything is available in it. Zee5, originally ZEE was an OTT platform for indian serials, later integrated into zee5 for exclusive Zee media channels and movies. Zee5 is a subsidiary of Zee media entertainment which is a part of the Essel group.

It was launched in India on 14 February 2018. It has contentavailable  in 12 languages. The ZEE5 Ott mobile app is available on Android, Web, iOS, Smart TVs,etc. ZEE5 claimed 56 million monthly active users in December 2019.

On June 22,2021, ZEE5 service was launched in the United States. ZEE5 has launched an Ad Suite which has Ad Vault, Ampli5, Play5 and Wishbox. . ZEE5 is also available for free on Vodafone Play and AirtelXstream .Vodafone Idea joined ZEE5 and formed a new channel known as ZEE5 Theater which airs original movies and shows of ZEE5 exclusively available on vodafone play and the Idea mobile and TV app.

Before achieving its goals Zee Tv failed twice with OTT platforms Ditto TV & OZEE to achieve success with ZEE5.

Zee TV-India’s first-ever satellite TV Channel launched in the early ‘90s. It was also the first one to venture into ‘online streaming’.

In February 2012,theMD and CEO of ZEE PunitGoenka decided to launch the DittoTv but it couldn’t make an impact on the audience as the  people were not familiar with concept of OTT.

In 2016,OZEE was launched but failed to make an impact because of the competition in this area.

In 2018, ZEE5 was launched possessing all the features from its predecessors d its was a big success

In February 2012, then MD and CEO of ZEE Punit Goenka introduced the entertainment world to DittoTV- Zee’s subscription video-on-demand (SVoD) service during a  press conference. With this service users can watch Live TV, movies, and music videos on their phones, PCs, laptops,etc. At that time the concept of OTT platform and online streaming was not clear to anyone. So, it failed to achieve its goal.

About : Second attempt with OZEE

After DittoTv, ZEE Ott came up with its second OTT platform with new modifications. This time they made their content free and accessible to all its users .It was similar to youtube. They want to rule the video streaming market with OZEE- and advertising video-on-demand (AVoD) service.

At this time, India was starting to learn about the concept of online streaming as Hotstar, In 2015, got famous during the ICC Cricket World Cup as well as Netflix was emerging in the Entertainment Industry.

OZEE failed to make a significant impact on the Indian market despite gaining 145 million views in a quarter. India was becoming more competitive with the launch of Netflix and such as VOOT competing for viewership and money.

In February 2018,  sawZEE clubbing Ditto TV and ZEE OTT platforms to introduce a new OTT service called ZEE5, which had content available in 12 languages across multiple formats from web series to movies to everyday TV content from the vast network of 45 ZEE channels.

ZEE5 gained 61.5 million users in 12 different languages in one year since its launch and 50 million downloads on the Google Play Store and  ranked as one of the top five entertainment apps in India.It was a great success for them, after the continuous tries and hardships.

ZEE5 went worldwide in October 2018 launching app operations in 190 countries. Both as an AVoD and SVoD service through various partners. The company plans to reach 100 million users by the end of 2019.
