In India, married ladies celebrate the Hindu holiday Karwa Chauth. They pray for the health and long life of their spouses and practice a day-long fast from dawn to moonrise on this auspicious day. Although it’s difficult to fast for the entire day without drinking water or eating anything, devoted wives carry out these customs out of a deep love and respect for their husbands.
Karwa Chauth literally means presenting ‘Argya’ to the moon on the Chaturthi of the Karthika month, using an earthen pitcher called a Karwa. Every year, on the fourth day of the dark fortnight in the Kartika month, the event takes place. There are some anecdotes connected to this festival, despite the fact that its origins are still somewhat unclear.
Bollywood stars are getting ready to celebrate Karwa Chauth, a festival they have never participated in before, this year.
